A vintage worth waiting for

Jun 6, 2025 | News

While this year’s harvest report may be arriving a little later than usual, it was intentionally held back – for good reason. We wanted to share it alongside the release of our 2025 vintage white & rosé wines, giving you a fuller picture of the season that shaped them.

From ideal growing conditions to standout cultivars, 2025 has proven to be a remarkable year in the vineyards. Now, as the first wines are ready to be enjoyed, we’re pleased to reflect on the season and introduce the latest additions to the Merwida and Papenkuils ranges.

The 2025 harvest at Merwida Winery began about 10 days later than in 2024, with the first Sauvignon Blanc grapes picked during the first week of February. Even ripening throughout the vineyards allowed for a well-paced, selective harvest. Over the 10-week season, weather conditions were ideal – no rain and no extreme heat – making 2025 one of the healthiest vintages in many years.

Yields were slightly above average, while quality remained consistently high. The white wine cultivars showed fresh, expressive flavours, and the red cultivars impressed with excellent colour and balance. Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinotage, and Shiraz stood out as exceptional performers this season.

Despite ongoing challenges with the power supply, careful planning kept disruptions minimal. A few fermentations progressed more slowly than usual, but overall, it was a very successful and rewarding harvest.

We’re excited to introduce the first release from this exceptional vintage – our Merwida Sauvignon Blanc 2025. Enjoy an exclusive 25% discount on this wine until 31 July!

Our other upcoming releases from the 2025 vintage will become available as soon as the remaining 2024 stock sells out. These include:

  • Merwida Chenin Blanc 2025
  • Papenkuils “Waterblommetjie” Pinot Grigio 2025
  • Papenkuils “Kukumakranka” Unwooded Chardonnay 2025
  • Papenkuils “Vlei Vygie” Pinotage Rosé 2025

These wines reflect the freshness, purity, and character of the 2025 vintage – and we can’t wait for you to enjoy them.
